<p><strong>Director of Technology Integrated Learning (at the rank of Associate Professor to Professor</strong>)</p>

<p>The University of Victoria invites applications for the academic position of Director of Technology Integrated Learning.  <strong>The position is governed by the Faculty Framework Agreement, and will be at the rank of Academic Administrator (Associate to Full Professor). </strong>The University is seeking an energetic, forward-looking and engaging leader who will transform how the University uses and supports educational technologies to further advance excellence in learning, teaching and scholarship.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership in supporting pedagogical excellence in higher education through the incorporation of emerging and innovative technology.</p>
<p>Reporting to the Associate Vice-President Academic Planning, the Director of Technology Integrated Learning is responsible for developing a strategic plan for educational technology and leading a new central integrated resource unit for faculty, staff and academic units that supports the full range of learning environments at the University of Victoria.  This unit is comprised of 7-10 staff members with a variety of skills supporting technology integrated learning.</p>

<h2>Requirements</h2>
<p>Applicants should have an earned PhD or equivalent with related leadership and administrative and teaching experience in a higher education setting and a proven track record in planning, implementing and managing commonly used higher education hardware and software applications, including course management systems, classroom technologies, and multimedia instructional technologies.</p>
<p>Applicants should also have demonstrated the ability to foster team work and collaboration among a diverse group of skilled faculty, staff, students and administrators.  <strong>The position is governed by the Faculty Framework Agreement, and will be at the rank of Academic Administrator (Associate to Full Professor). </strong></p>
<p>Academic Administrator positions primarily carry organizational and administrative responsibilities in direct support of the academic mission, with some expectations for teaching and/or research.  The position  requires qualifications similar to or greater than what would normally be required for a regular academic appointment.</p>

This session features a presentation and discussion with Matthew Asser, Managing Partner of Learning and Performance at 4Growth Inc.<br /> <br /><strong>Title: Challenges in the Graduate Student Experience: Struggling to Complete Valuable Research in an Online Environment</strong><br /> <br />Research pertaining to graduate students in distance education and their thesis research process is woefully constrained. Consequently, potentially important research and research areas remain unexplored. This presentation will explore specifically the issues graduate students experience conducting the research phase of the thesis, including the challenges students may encounter to recruit participants.<br /> <br />Streams of research identified in the presentation will be: online graduate work broadly, to create context around how graduate study emerged, the value of graduate work, and central issues; the particular case of thesis research students who work in an online environment; graduate student researchers in higher education, on campus or distance education and their access to research participants; and access to research participants in an online environment, whether it is different from campus based access and if so how.<br /> <br /><strong>When: Wednesday, May 8, 2013 &#8211; 11am to 12noon Mountain Time (Canada)</strong></p>

The widespread use of affordances has naturalized the term, often masking the import of its evolving social science definitions. Diversity in applications of affordances across disciplines has led to calls to abandon the term altogether.<br /> <br />Following an account of ontological debates about the nature of affordances, Dr. Parchoma will examine a selection of thematically linked and often-cited papers on technological affordances for varied applications of the term. This session features a presentation and discussion with Nathaniel Ostashewski of Curtin University, Australia.<br /> <br /><strong>Title: Networked Professional Learning Using Social Media: Benefits and Challenges</strong><br /> <br />Networked learning supporting professional skill development is becoming more commonplace as social media tools and practices become part of daily life.<br /> <br />This session will describe some of the unexpected benefits experienced by learners who participate in networked learning activities designed using the Networked Learning Framework. Challenges with the design, development, and delivery of networked learning that engages learners are also explored in this session based on research that began in 2009. A online dance teacher program, a SMOOC, and Teacher Professional Development modules designed using the Networked Learning Framework approaches described in this session will be discussed as examples.<br /> <br /><strong>When: Wednesday, March 6, 2013 &#8211; 11am to 12noon Mountain Time (Canada)</strong></p>
