Director Position – Distance Learning, University of the South Pacific

I received this invitation the other day, and I’m passing it along in case someone else from among our community might be interested (no, I’m not). Fiji is sounding pretty inviting as we approach winter!

The University of the South Pacific, Fijihas retained Academic Search International to assist in their search to appoint a Director of the Distance and Flexible Learning Project…

We would like to present this opportunity to you and invite you to consider whether you have some personal interest in the position. Alternatively, we would be grateful for any recommendations you might wish to make as to other suitable individuals.

Situated in the heart of the Pacific Ocean, midway between the Equator and the South Pole, the University of the South Pacific (USP) is a regional university owned and operated by twelve Pacific Island countries.USP has 3 major campuses and serves a population base of over 1.8 million people, with populations varying in size from Tokelau with 1,500 people to Fiji with close to 800,000.

USP is a world leader in the practice of flexible learning and a pioneer since the 1970’s as a distance education provider. Due to the vast geographical distances that USP serves, approximately half of the University’s 15,000 students choose to study by Distance and Flexible Learning (DFL) within their own home countries.

The Distance and Flexible Learning Support Centre is a result of ongoing rationalising and mainstreaming of distance and flexible learning and teaching. The Centre promotes distance and flexible learning and teaching across the University. To service the broad spectrum of students who enrol at USP and the preparation of instruction, theCentreprovides leadership and works closely with other sections to engage the best of know-how and knowledge. In addition the University has also established the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning together with extensive investments in the Media Centre and USPNet.

To enhance the design and delivery of distance education programs in the Pacific through institutional strengthening and capacity building activities at USP’s campuses and centres, USP established the DFL Project. As the Director the successful candidate will be an academic with a strong teaching and research record with experience in the area of distance and flexible learning and teaching. Working closely with Heads of Schools, they will provide management and leadership, together with strategic inputs into developments in flexible learning approaches that are embedded across all of USP’s academic programmes.

Should you have an interest in the position and would like to receive further information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Alternatively, we would be pleased to hear of any recommendations you might have as to potential candidates.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Kind regards

Moira King
