The University Learning Centre: Opportunities and Challenges

The University Learning Centre (ULC) will come into existence in January 2007. It will serve as an academic unit devoted to promoting effective learning and teaching. Under the umbrella of the ULC will be the Gwenna Moss Centre for Teaching Effectiveness as well as the University Learning Centre for Student Success. Opportunities for promoting student success will revolve around building basic skills and enhanced performance in writing, mathematics, technology, and information. In addition, campus support for service learning will be coordinated through the ULC. Other programs, in cooperation with academic units and SESD will be promoted through the ULC. On the faculty side, the Gwenna Moss Centre will continue to support more effective teaching as well as offering consultancy services on innovative curricular and academic program design. This presentation will describe the organizational structure of the ULC and will explain how academic and service units can work together with the ULC to ensure the University’s commitment to teaching and learning.
