SSHRC International Opportunities Fund

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) has two upcoming international opportunities—one for development and one for project grants.

The SSHRC IOF competition for development is to support developmental activities that lead to significant international research collaboration up to a maximum of $25,000 in funding. The project grants are to support projects that secure Canadian participation in international research initiatives or networks up to a maximum of $75,000 in funding.

International Community-University Research Alliances (CURA)

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) in partnership with the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) is happy to announce a new competition: International Community-University Alliances (CURA) Program .

The purpose of the program is to support the creation of alliances between community organizations and postsecondary institutions which, through a process of ongoing collaboration and mutual learning, will foster comparative research, training and the creation of new knowledge in areas of shared importance for the social, cultural or economic development of communities in Canada and in low and middle income countries (LMICs). The program is not exclusive to development-related projects.

Thematic areas include: Environment and Natural Resource Management; Information and Communication Technologies for Development; Innovation, Policy and Science; and Social and Economic Policy.

Multiple applications are permitted, but each university can only be awarded one International CURA.
