The Journal of Critical Photography Studies publishes original articles on topics related to criticism of photography, graphic and visual design. The journal overtly seeks empirical contributions as well as papers that address the theoretical and methodological debates within all study in the field of ‘lens-based’ media, comprising photography, film and video. JCPS also aims to connect visual art with scholars in such other disciplines as history, literature, philosophy and science studies. The journal adopts a broad view of the arts, including all sectors of the creative photography industries such as visual arts and crafts, design, material culture studies, digital media and three-dimensional imaging, performing arts, history of science, geography, anthropology, music, film, cinema, advertisement, journalism, cultural studies, museology, critical, ideological or political, literature; and also of the disciplinary perspectives that can inform the field.
Articles submitted to this journal must be original and not have been published elsewhere. The journal welcomes the submission of high quality manuscripts with significant policy implications that are concerned with the theoretical or empirical aspects of the following broadly defined areas: Interdisciplinary methods in the study of photography, philosophy of photographys, ocial and political theories of photography, digital photography and new media, business of photography, visual art practices, history of photography, new technologies on photography, independent, and mainstream practices of photography, media archaeology, photographic art practice
