Call for Proposals Closes January 10, 2019.

The Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) 2019 Annual Conference will be held at the RBC Convention Centre in the heart of downtown Winnipeg from June 11 – 14, 2019.

You are receiving this notification because you are an influential and valued member of the education community and we welcome your participation in this annual conference. The STLHE conference is a networking and professional development opportunity to showcase innovative ideas and learn more about what is happening in the higher education teaching and learning field. It is also a fertile setting to reciprocally share feedback on the journey behind our research, projects, programs and ideas.  As such, this year’s conference theme is Guiding the Journey: Learner – Teacher – Learner.

This conference is ideal for:

  • Post-secondary educators and administrators,
  • Higher education researchers,
  • Educational Developers,
  • Graduate students,
  • Experts in the field of higher education, and
  • K-12 experts who work with those in higher education.

There are many great sessions that take place during the STLHE Annual Conference. We invite you to contribute to these innovative and engaging sessions. The online submission system is now available for proposal uploads. We hope you will consider participating in the 2019 STLHE Annual Conference as a presenter or reviewer. Details related to the conference theme and proposal requirements can be found here.

If you would like to submit your proposal and/or sign up to be a reviewer please click here. All submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. (Central time) on Thursday January 10, 2019.

The pre-conference workshops focusing on the theme Learning Spaces might also be of interest to you. There will be many opportunities throughout the pre-conference and the regular conference to network with experts in the field, faculty members, administrators, and teaching and learning centre staff. STLHE is a great opportunity to receive feedback and/or future directions for your own programs and research endeavours.

Mauve-ember Man of the Year!

Screen Shot 2018-12-06 at 11.44.23 AM.png

I posted earlier about my prostate cancer diagnosis, and Jay Wilson took it up as an opportunity to raise funds through his first ever Movember campaign page.  Jay raised more than $3200, which was astonishing to both of us.  He had to keep raising his target and the incentives (including dyeing his ‘stache a really awful shade of purple) to keep up with the donations.  I know most of the people who donated, and I realize a part of their motivation was to show their support for my own diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.  I hope you all know how much every one of those love letters meant to me. And Jay already knows what his support means.  Thanks, brother.

I was also humbled to learn that old friend Brad Wuetherick, whose Dad has been struggling with the disease for a long time, also included mention of my situation in his own Movember campaign page, which he’s tended for several years.  Thanks, Brad, for your tangible support and ongoing friendship!

Jay and Brad are people who find ways to do the right thing and throw support to their friends at the same time.

And for the record if you’re curious, I’m doing fine.  I had surgery on November 16, and every indication is that it was completely successful. I’m already well along the road to full recovery. And that’s due to a lot of friends.  Thanks, everyone.
